New York Baroque Incorporated (NYBI), at the vanguard of the new generation of New York City’s early music scene, announces an ambitious 2018-19 season that includes a new series of concerts at Trinity Wall Street’s St. Paul’s Chapel, three performances at St. Thomas Fifth Avenue including two with that church’s esteemed choir, a return to Carnegie Hall, and the ensemble’s debut at the Caramoor Center. Across a dozen performances, NYBI will traverse the highways and byways of the Baroque era, including music by the Bach family, Albinoni, Clérambault, Handel, Locatelli, Scarlatti, Telemann and Vivaldi.

“Alchemy”: A New Series at Trinity St. Paul’s
Following a season-opening concert at Trinity Wall Street’s St. Paul’s Chapel on September 14, 2018, for which NYBI teams up with resident Choir of Trinity Wall Street in a program dubbed #Bach – featuring music by brothers Johann Christian and Carl Philipp Emmanuel and pater Johann Sebastian – NYBI curates a series of four concerts under the banner “Alchemy.” The spring run, with performances on April 4, April 25, May 2, and May 22, 2019, features programs based on the classical elements earth, water, air, and fire, and includes a pan-European selection of works by J. S. Bach, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, George Frideric Handel, Pietro Locatelli, Georg Philip Telemann and Antonio Vivaldi.

Return to Carnegie Hall
NYBI made its Carnegie Hall-Stern Auditorium debut in February 2017, collaborating with MasterVoices in a new English-language translation of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion. On January 31, 2019, NYBI graces the stage of Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall with ascendant countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński performing sacred works by Vivaldi and rarely heard arias from oratorios by fellow-Italians Nicola Fago, Gaetano Maria Schiassi and German composer Johann Adolf Hasse.

Collaborations with The St. Thomas Choir
Frequent collaborators with The Choir of St. Thomas, NYBI returns to the venerable Fifth Avenue church for three performances throughout the 2018-19 season: the “essential” (The New York Times) annual Messiah on December 4 and 6, 2018; a Lenten-time performance of J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion on April 11, 2019; and an instrumental program of works by Tomaso Albinoni, J. S. Bach, Handel and Vivaldi on May 9, 2019, which features St. Thomas’ organist Benjamin Sheen and Music Director Daniel Hyde as harpsichord soloist.

Caramoor Debut
NYBI closes its 2018-19 season on June 30, 2019, with its debut at the Caramoor Center north of Manhattan, backing mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux in a program of arias and cantatas by Handel and Alessandro Scarlatti, paired with instrumental works by Francesco Geminiani and Vivaldi.
