The best-selling Italian pianist-composer Ludovico Einaudi returns with the release of his 12th studio album, Elements, available worldwide on October 16 from the Ponderosa label.

Following the international success of 2013’s In a Time Lapse, Elements represents a compelling and distinctive departure for Einaudi. He explains, "Elements sprung from a desire for fresh beginnings. I imagined new frontiers created by the edge between what I knew and what I didn’t know – paths of knowledge that I had long wanted to explore, as diverse as mythology, science, the written word, visual art, natural landscapes. For months I grappled with a seemingly chaotic mix of images, thoughts and feelings. Then, gradually, everything came together like a dance, as if all the elements were parts of the same world, and myself within it.”

Elements is essentially a 12-part suite and, as with much of Einaudi’s previous work, each part has a precise relation to the others. With an ensemble comprised of piano, strings, percussion, guitar and electronic instruments, the music is lush and effortlessly interweaves acoustic and electronic sounds.

Elements was recorded over a three-month span, between March and June 2015, in the studio at Einaudi’s home in the Langhe region of the Italian countryside. The musicians include the regulars of what has become “Ludovico’s “band” – formed of violinists Mauro Durante and Federico Mecozzi, cellists Marco Decimo and Redi Hasa, double bassist Alberto Fabris and percussionist Francesco Arcuri – and features the Dutch string ensemble Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Berlin-based electronic musician Robert Lippok, the percussionists of the Parco della Musica of Rome, the Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco (known for his work with the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers), and the internationally acclaimed violinist Daniel Hope, who plays on the opening track, Petricor.
