NEW YORK BAROQUE INCORPORATED TEAMS WITH SAINT THOMAS CHOIR FOR HANDEL’S MESSIAH

New York Baroque Incorporated (NYBI) returns to Saint Thomas Church to collaborate with the venerated institution’s Choir of Men and Boys in the highly-anticipated annual performances of Handel’s Messiah. Under the baton of Saint Thomas’ Music Director Daniel Hyde, the performances take place on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, and Thursday, December 7, 2017.

NYBI’s first collaboration with the Saint Thomas forces, in a March 2017 performance of C. P. E. Bach’s St. John Passion, was a resounding success. “It is a joy for us to return to Saint Thomas,” remarks NYBI’s Artistic Director Wen Yang. "I can’t think of anything more rewarding than playing Handel’s Messiah at the Saint Thomas Church with Dan and the boys. We are so excited to be part of such a notable New York holiday tradition.”

New York Baroque Incorporated has lead the way among the new generation of Big Apple-based early music ensembles, “studded with stars in the making … truly excellent, ”according to The New York Times. Saint Thomas’ annual performances of Handel’s Messiah are one of New York City’s most enthusiastically received holiday events, the “king among the innumerable performances in New York” (The New York Times). This year’s soloists are soprano Ellie Dehn, mezzo-soprano Clare McNamara, tenor Lawrence Jones and baritone Jesse Blumberg.

The next performance in New York Baroque Incorporated’s 2017-18 season is “The Big Wig: A French Baroque Dance Mix,” a collaboration with Grammy Award-winning violinist Robert Mealy and virtuoso baroque dancers Caroline Copeland and Carlos Fittante, featuring music by Handel, Lully and Rameau
