From Tolga Kashif, creator of the internationally best-selling Queen Symphony, comes the new album, The Genesis Suite (Lightsong Media Group LMGRCD1). Tolga's latest opus will be released on his new label, Lightsong, on 11 October 2010. The album will be made available to retail, e-tail and digital services by Absolute Marketing & Distribution via Universal , and will be supported with a major marketing and promotional campaign.

Recording of The Genesis Suite took place in July, at Abbey Road's historic Studio Number 1, with further tracks laid at London's Air, Angel and Kore Studios. Tolga conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, who will also join him on stage at the Barbican for the live launch of the album on 11 October. Tolga and the LSO were joined by the choir London Voices, with pianist Freddy Kempf, cellist Caroline Dale and LSO leader Tomo Keller providing instrumental solos.

With the legendary prog-rock band's blessing, Tolga set about composing a suite of contemporary orchestral works inspired by the songs of Genesis, themselves influenced by a wide range of musical styles. Each piece is cast in a different mode, ranging from the filmic to the classical. In paying tribute to the band, Tolga sought not to do just simple arrangements of Genesis tunes. He explains, "My goal has been to maintain the essence of the songs whilst expanding and extending out some of my own thoughts, taking it hopefully to another level where I'm grappling with the material in a more profound way which Genesis and classical fans alike will appreciate."

The Genesis Suite encapsulates the sweeping range of moods and configurations from the band's oeuvre, which featured rich combinations of harmony and rhythm, vivid metaphorical imagery in the lyrics and elongated song structures which lend themselves naturally to a longer-form classical treatment. Tolga's reworkings imaginatively weave pulsating orchestral soundscapes with uplifting choral lines, intermingling with gentle instrumentals.

Full orchestra, chorus and evocative percussion lead in the album's opening track which melds the 1986 Tonight, Tonight, Tonight with the same year's Land of Confusion, which won a Grammy Award for it's compelling, puppetry video. The tender Ripples (1976) is given an instrumental treatment, with Tolga's version interweaving grand piano with orchestra, echoing the original's significant keyboard part.

Tolga fashions the epic Mad Man Moon, also from 1976, into a Concertante for Violin and Orchestra, here featuring LSO leader Tomo Keller, whilst the 1978 love ballad Follow You, Follow Me retains its romantic sentiment. The allegorical Fading Lights - from 1991 and the final track on Phil Collins's last album as member of band - continues the orchestral mode. The beautiful and haunting Entangled (1975) distils the orignal's 12-string acoustic guitars to solo piano, here played by Freddy Kempf. The chorus returns for the final track, joining the LSO in full force for a fusion of 1978's Undertow from ... And Then There Were Three ... , and the pseudo-mythical Blood on the Rooftops from the previous, 1976 album Wind & Wuthering; in between the two releases marked one of the band's numerous personnel changes.

A large-scale composition, The Genesis Suite will be supported by a marketing plot to match its impressive scoring. Elements include a media partnership with Classic FM, a two-week London Underground poster campaign, TV advertising, print ads and editorial in Music Week and Saga, and an online viral promotion.

The culmination of 18 months compositional work, The Genesis Suite follows in the footsteps of Tolga's Queen Symphony which achieved international success in 2003 with a release on EMI Classics and sold-out concerts world-wide. In addition to creating the new score, Tolga has launched his own label, Lightsong, which is but one part of a larger entrepreneurial endeavour that provides project development and management services as well as international exploitation and licensing deals. With innovative and dynamic financing structures, the operation focuses on independent productions that develop the talents of a wide range of UK artists, and aims to narrow the gap between creation and consumption through the collaborations of skilled partners resulting in the successful production and marketing of music, visual and multimedia projects.

The Genesis Suite will be released on 11 October 2010, on Lightsong. On the same day, the album will be launched live in concert, with Tolga Kashif conducting the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican.
